Complementing the Odie's finishes are Mr. Cornwall's Creative Colours, 100% pure finely ground pigments created specifically for the Artisan, Craftsman, Weekend DIY'er, and Master Craftsman. These pigments can be mixed with the Odie's finishes, such as Odie's Oil (not included), Odie's Dark (not included), and Odie's Solvent (not included), to create decorative finishes, man-made patinas, and color-matched protective finishes for furniture, floors, and more.

There are two main methods for creating custom stains using the Mr. Cornwall's Creative Colours pigments:

Custom Stain Mix Method 1: For an oil-based stain, simply add the pigment to the Odie's Oil (not included) or Super Duper Everlasting Oil (not included), shake or stir vigorously to maintain even distribution, and apply it like a wiping stain. Follow the basic Odie's Oil (not included) application instructions and allow the stain to cure for 3 to 7 days.

Custom Stain Mix Method 2: For a solvent-based stain, mix 2-3 parts Odie's Safer Solvent (not included) with 1 part Odie's Oil (not included), and then add the desired pigment. This method is better for achieving darker stains and has the advantage of curing much faster. You can also add another coat of the stain for more color. Apply the solvent-based stain according to the basic Odie's Oil (not included) application instructions.

The level of sanding will affect the color saturation - the higher the sanding, the less color you will achieve. Therefore, it is always important to run tests and experiment before applying the custom stain to the entire piece. For the solvent-based method, you may need to apply multiple layers to reach the desired color saturation.
